War Raised Costs | 22.03.2022
Pointing out that the exports are to the Middle East and Balkan countries, especially to EU countries, Shoemakers' Chamber President Muhammet Acar stated that there was a 25 percent decline in exports with the Ukraine-Russia war. Stating that Ukraine and Russia have a 25 percent market share in shoe exports, Acar said, “As an industry, we were one of the sectors that experienced the pandemic period the most. While the same intensity continued after the pandemic, the rise in raw material prices, which increased on a global scale, put us, the producers, into serious trouble. Acar said, "The oil prices, which increased with the Ukraine-Russia war, were reflected in the prices of raw materials," said Acar. Our production costs are not limited to this. As other input costs increased, prices started to rise as well," he said. Stating that they export to 30 countries such as Germany, England, France, Israel and Palestine, Acar said, “We can say that the Russian and Ukrainian markets did not affect us much. This closed market allowed new markets and the growth of existing markets. We can also say that there is uneasiness in the sector due to the increases.” (Fatih ERSOY)
